To make it easier for monitoring purposes we have been insisting on Beaufort West. However, it appears to get full at times, particularly now with the yearling sales coming up in Germiston. Consequently, we have at times allowed a few horses to also do the 3 week stop-over in George. Unfortunately, George is a higher risk area. What we have been insisting on though, is that horses moving there must have a health check done by the private vet before departure and also not come out of the centre of an outbreak area or close to known suspicious cases. Port Elizabeth is in the centre of an outbreak area, so it would be preferable for the horse to quarantine in Beaufort West. Keep checking the available information sources, as a complete embargo may be placed on movement of horses into the Western Cape in the near future.
