Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Once we have reported cases of AHS in our area of Krugersdorp. What is the waiting period before transporting horses in or out of this area?

Asked: 7/2/2008, 15:04 by George Cormac.
Answered: 11/2/2008, 16:45 by Douglas Welsh.

There is no specifc time period prescribed for waiting before moving horses between infected areas except if you are moving the horses to the Western Cape.

The risk of moving horses during an outbreak is that moving into an outbreak area you are risking your horses life and moving out of an outbreak area you risk all the horses that will be in the area you will be moving to. The horses that can transmit the disease will be in a vireamic state and you will not see any clinical signs of AHS.
