If you look at the statistics then we will notice that there was a big drop in cases reported from 05-06 to 06-7 and hopefully we will see the same trend for 07-08. Why do you think it is that the survial rate has dropped significantly. In 05-06 82% of horses survived if they contracted AHS. In 06-07 only 45% survived and for the current year 07-08 only 40%? ?

There was a huge drop in cases from 06 to 07 outbreaks but this can be attributed to weather conditions. We are seeing a great increase in cases this year and we anticipate it to possibly be worse than 06 outbreaks.

I donít think we can draw any conclusions from the % survival rate due to the underreporting of the disease. What we have identified is that historically it was reported that the mortality rate was 80% -90% but it appears that if a horse has any vaccination history the mortality rate reduces to below 40%
