Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

I understand that the racing industry has provided a lot of funding to fight AHS. If this virus over-winters in animals like zebras, what if we treat zebras during winter months to kill the virus which they carry? It is a state controlled disease and couldn't the state vet implement such an effort? ?

WOW what an enormous task it will be to treat all the Zebras? Firstly the cost is prohibitive as well as managing the zebras. We will need to dart and catch each zebra etc. What about the Kruger National Park where there is about 30 000. We are not even certain that the virus does winter-over in the zebra. This still needs to be confirmed with research.
