Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Should horses which are not physically in a good condition be vaccinated? For example, we have a mare in terrible condition with two week foal at foot. Do we need to wait for the mare to pick up condition before we vaccinate her?

Answered: 12/11/2007, 14:35 by Douglas Welsh.

Due to the fact your mare is in poor condition her immune system will be low and therefore at risk of contracting AHS. We suggest that you should still vaccinate the mare and try to build up her condition prior to the outbreak period early next year.
