Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

If there are no zebras close, where do the midges get infected blood. Do the midges travel far or Can the virus survice in ticks?

Asked: 3/3/2008, 09:27 by Berenice Pretorius.
Answered: 5/3/2008, 16:05 by Douglas Welsh.

Not enough research has been done in this feild however it is assumed that the virus will move from infected horse to un-infected horses during an outbreak and not all horses will show clinical signs. What we are trying to understand is the over winter of the virus. The virus has not been found to survive in ticks.
